We prefer an eggier, more subtly sweet take on the classic Joy of Cooking baked custard |
Preheat oven to 300°
Blend together:
- 4 c whole milk
- 1/2 c honey
- 1/4 tsp salt
Add and beat well:
- 5 eggs
Add:
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (or the scraped seeds from a 1-inch vanilla bean)
Once well-beaten, pour into baking dish.
Dust with:
- Nutmeg
Place dish into a larger baking dish and fill larger with boiling water.
Bake an hour or more until custard firm and knife comes out clean.
